RADON

Lafser & Associates has the capability to provide radon testing for commercial and residential properties,
schools and other institutions, and redevelopment projects.

Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that cannot be detected by sight, smell, or taste.  Radon is
released from rocks, soil, and water in the ground from the natural decay of uranium and can enter a building
through cracks and openings in foundations.  Radon has been reported as the leading cause of lung cancer
among non-smokers in the United States, and the second-leading cause of lung cancer among smokers. It is recommended by the leading environmental agency, the EPA and the U.S. Surgeon General that all homes
be tested.  The EPA action level for radon is 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter of air), meaning that owners should
consider taking steps to reduce radon levels when measurements are greater than 4 pCI.  Radon levels can
vary greatly from building to building, even neighboring buildings can have significantly different radon levels.

Radon Testing:

  • Is typically tested over a 24 hour time period for accurate determination of exposure levels.

  • Provides rapid information on whether radon is present, at what level, and whether further action is
    required.

  • Highly recommended for all building real-estate transactions.

Lafser & Associates Personnel:

  • Are trained and certified for radon testing.

  • Provide radon testing for existing buildings to meet requirements outlined by the  Missouri Housing
Development Commission (MHDC) Architectural/Construction Compliance Guidelines
